Sweet Dreams

We have been working long and hard these last couple of weeks to help Ian learn to sleep through the night. We have been having trouble with that since Ian was four months old. Lately, he has been waking up around midnight for a paci fix, and then around 3am and 6am wanting to nurse. We decided no more eating before 6am and we (me) have spent many nights following the Baby Whisperer method of sleep training. This involves picking him up after he has been crying for a few minutes and then putting him back down. The first couple of nights, I would do this for an hour and a half or so. He started sleeping through the paci fix time, or putting himself back to sleep, and the 3am time got to be less time awake - for a few days anyways.

This past Friday night, James was up and took care of him all night. He didn't have to pick him up once, which is amazing! (James is such a natural when it comes to comforting Ian - he has been since Ian was born. In the hospital, James was often the only one who could soothe Ian. ) And then last night, he slept until 5:20am! This was definitely a new record for him for the last three months! I think it really helped that no one was coming in late at night (me) or doing laundry for the next morning (James). He had a nice quiet night, which meant I did too!

Ian is turning into a side sleeper, like Mommy. So cute - he still sleeps with one hand under his cheek!

Kind of funny - later today, Ian took an hour and twenty minute nap, which is long for him. That meant I got a nice nap in too. During my nap, I dreamed that we took Ian to the dentist. The dentist looked in his mouth and decided to go ahead and give him little baby veneers. The dentist just plopped them right in - they must have been the peel and stick kind. ;-) Ian has been teething a lot lately, so his little teeth-to-be must have influenced this dream.

Here's a picture of my baby napping with all his loveys.
