Uh-Oh & Please

This past month, Ian started saying "uh-oh". It started out as "ha-oo" and has gradually gotten to the recognizable "uh-oh" point. It's super cute and we love hearing him say it. Today he and I were playing with blocks and I caught his "uh-oh" on video!

Ian also started signing "please" this last month (sign is made by circling flat palm on your chest). We have been helping him sign "please" for a few months now, especially when he gets fussy. We don't want him thinking we are picking him up/giving him a drink/etc because he is fussing and have really emphasized using nice manners to get what we want.

The first time he used "please" on his own was about a week and a half ago at Target. He was in the dressing room with me and had stood up on the bench and didn't think he could get down on his own. He really wanted to get down to investigate the door and was majorly fussing about it. So I told him to say "please", not at all expecting him to sign it! I was so surprised when he signed it correctly, looking a bit desperate. I couldn't resist making a big deal out of it and, of course, I got him off the bench right away.

The second time he signed "please" on his own was a few days later. He had been banging on the TV screen - apparently he wanted in his Pack N Play and knows if he bangs the TV screen, he will end up in there for a time out. I figured this out and told him to say "please Pack N Play" instead of banging the TV screen. I got a "please" from him! (Haha - we haven't taught him to sign Pack N Play yet, so I really couldn't expect that!)

Now, he will usually sign "please" even if I randomly ask him to and does it with both hands instead of just one. Here's a little example:

Ian, you are such a sweet boy. We love watching your verbal and signing skills grow! You'll be out-talking and out-signing us before we know it!
