...And I've been working like a dog
It's been a hard day's night
I should be sleeping like a log!
--The Beatles
Okay, so it's not quite the right context, but it certainly describes Tuesday night. We had a VERY rough night. Mr. Ian was up at least once an hour all night. I was fortunate to be off that night and even tried to go to bed early - at 10:30!! But, he kept waking up and by the time I had him back asleep and had almost fallen asleep myself, he was awake again. Around 12:30 I moved out to the couch so James could get some sleep. I managed to catch a few zzz's, but not much more than two hours worth altogether. Ian woke up at 3:50 and didn't go back to sleep. So, at 4:45 I decided we were just up for a while and decided to see if he would eat breakfast.
Here he is at 5aqm! I loaded his highchair with toys while I grabbed his breakfast.
I came in with breakfast (after having only been in the kitchen for a minute) to see this!
He had been close enough to the table to grab my laptop power cord and unplug it. I really, really try to keep him far enough away, but that kid has his own methods of getting what he wants! I mean, there was some decent distance between him and the table.
After breakfast, it was bath time. Ian can't undo the buckles yet, but he has figured out that they have to come off somehow before he can get out and will try and "help".

Before I put Ian in the tub, I turned on the portable heater and ran the shower for a little bit before I gave Ian a bath. I thought all the steam and warm water might help him feel better. I even made it a bubble bath to boot - anything to get this kid relaxed and back to sleep!
He sure had some wild and crazy bed head going!

Dr. Liz (my sister) had suggested a warm compress on his eye bone and underneath his eyes to help his sinuses clear. The area around his right eye had started to get a little red and puffy due to the sinus pressure (I would not have even thought that was the cause - good thing for Dr. Liz!). Surprisingly, Ian let me put a washcloth on his forehead. Normally he yanks them right off. Of course, he had to have one to hold too.
After bath time, he still looked like he didn't feel good, but he was starting to look tired too (yes!).
Ian really does loves bath time and I do think it helped him calm down and relax.

I snuck in a picture of his tooth while we were at it. If you click on the picture, it will make it larger and you might be able to see the second tooth coming in right next to the first.

James was a super sweetie and came home early from work to watch Ian for me so I could sleep.

During the day, they were playing in front of the mirror and James said he really believed that Ian was starting to recognize himself as himself! Normally, Ian doesn't have any eye contact with himself in the mirror, but today James said he would just stare at himself for quite a while.

And, of course, Daddy has the best snacks. I actually missed the picture I wanted to get, but this gives you an idea. Ian had grabbed both of James' pajama pant strings and was holding them like horsie reins. It was really kind of funny!

Yum, yum!

Ian, as always, is our little vocal imitator. He LOVES to imitate the sounds we make. I couldn't find the camera last night, so I missed a cute episode with him and Daddy. Fortunately, I caught this one on video today. It was a totally different sound that Ian was copying than last night, but still cute nonetheless.
My mom is being super sweet and is going to take Ian for a good portion of Saturday, so here's to sleeping like a log!
