I still have no idea if we will homeschool Ian or not, but in the meantime, I figured it sure wouldn't hurt for us to have some semi-structured activities to do at home every day. I sat down the other night and came up with a simple plan. Art on Mondays and Wednesdays. Music on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Tactile learning (cooking, etc) on Fridays. This week's color is green, the letter is "A", and the new word is "ears" (we are working on body parts).
Daddy bought Ian some great clay a few months ago. He had done some reading and apparently this clay is great for kiddos. It's non-toxic and it DOESN'T dry out! It's really quite amazing stuff! James uses it for all his claymation projects. ;-)
So Ian and I sat down to do art this morning with the clay.
We (okay - I) made the letter "A" and practiced sounding it out.
Ian had fun dismantling poor Mr. A.
So we had to reshape him just a bit.
After art (which lasted all of five minutes!), it was time to do chores. Ian loves to help and I'm happy to have him help while he is still so enthusiastic about it. This morning, he helped me hang up and put away about ten coats! (I know - we're gonna need them again on Wednesday!) At one point, my little helper disappeared so I went looking for him. I found him laying on our bed watching Veggie Tales on Daddy's computer. Haha...finding movies more fun than chores starts young!
Pretty soon after that it was time for Daddy to leave for school. Daddy even wore a green sweatshirt today! (Haha - he didn't know today was green day.) Ian sure wanted to go to school with Daddy!
After Daddy left, we gathered as many green things as we could find and put them in the green tub.
I have no idea how all of this will pan out, but I am looking forward to all the fun activities Ian and I will get to do together!
That is awesome! I can tell you from experience, the kiddos whose parents work with them like that are SO much better prepared. Homeschool or not, it will help him tons! And if you do send him to school, his teachers will love you for it!
