I say, Doctor!
To relieve this flipper ache?
He put the lime in the coconut,
Drank them both up.
--Sung by the Muppets
We were singing, "I say, Doctor!" today for James, except for it was a fever ache and Gatorade and Ginger Ale, not a lime and a coconut. The poor guy has been sick all week and while he is starting to get a bit better, he is still getting a fever every evening and is feeling pretty fatigued most of the time. So, we headed back to the doctor at Care Now this afternoon. They run a couple of blood tests, including one for mono. Fortunately, the blood tests showed that he was negative for mono. His white blood cell count was up though, indicating a virus of some sort. So the doctor prescribed a stronger antibiotic, which was mostly to keep him from getting anything else since the antibiotics don't really help with a virus. She also said no work until Monday. So, James will have missed six days of work because of this!
Ian keeping Daddy company while we waited for the doctor.
While we were at the doctor, I was keeping Ian entertained by touching his rattle to his tummy and then pulling it towards me saying, "I got it!" I did this a couple of times and then Ian said "gaw iw". I don't know about you, but that sure sounded like "got it!" to me! It's amazing to both of us how much he repeats. He also is starting to say something that sure sounds a lot like "I love you". James and I have both heard it now. We've been trying to figure out how he says it and best we can come up with is "i'll o u". It melts my heart every time!
Even though we had to go back to the doctor, Daddy is actually starting to feel a little better every day and can last a little longer before he wears out. Tonight he was up for helping with bath time (yay!). Here he is getting Ian undressed and tickling his underarms. Ian loves to have his underarms tickled and will always bring his hands above his head when he is tickled.

The number 5 just "happened" to get stuck on our little Five during his bath.
After bath time, Daddy dressed Ian in his new jammies. They have a picture of a polar bear playing a drum set and say "I like to be LOUD!" That sure describes our little drummer! (Poor baby is super tired and wasn't in the mood for a picture.)
When we were starting with a sippy cup, we would take out the stopper the first time and tip the cup so just a little would dribble into the kids' mouths. We used juice and they wanted to start sucking on it to get more out. About the same time, we also taught them to use straws by getting a juice box and putting the straw in. We would hold the box and of course the investigate with their mouths, so once they had the straw by their mouth, we would squeeze the juicebox, gently, so they could taste. Then they would suck on the straws by themselves. It was nice for the times we didn't have a sippy cup around.
ReplyDeleteI hope James is feeling back to normal by the time he goes into work. He is in our prayers.
That's good to know about the juice boxes. I have taken the stopper out of the sippy cup, but he still prefers to chew on it. He will just let the juice dribble out his mouth. I think I am going to try a sippy cup with a more nipple like spout. What sippy cups did u start your kids on? Love you! (And James is doing better - thanks for praying!)
