My Little Drummer Boys

We took a little family trip to James' hometown of Princeton, TX (a little southeast of McKinney) for New Year's Day. Rick, James' long time drum instructor, and his family had invited us out for the day. Rick is an amazing drummer and taught James to drum the right way (versus the wimpy not so good technically way).

Rick has this great drum room filled with drums (of course!), posters, and books. We'd love for James to have his own drum room one day. Here's some pix of the guys doing their thing.

You can see a shadow of Rick's right stick in this one.

Ian was TOTALLY mesmerized by the whole thing! He just sat in my arms and watched for quite a while.

In this first one, he is doing some stick trick (I forget which one). He's so fast his sticks blur!

We tested out the burst feature on our camera some more. The next several pictures show James doing an underhanded toss on burst mode.
First note on the snare.

Tossing his right stick underneath his left one.

Catching the right stick in the air above the left one.

Back to the beginning.

And under again he goes.

Getting ready to catch it.

Pretty cool, huh? Ian made a great audience for the whole thing!

Ian loved watching Rick play some more too.

Rick showing off some cool stick tricks.

Another stick toss. Probably has a cool name, but I have no idea what it is.

Where's Waldo? I mean the stick? It's vertical here and almost blends into the background!
More cool stick tricks.

Love this one.
Haha - he looks like he is balancing the stick on his fingertip!

Caught it! (Of course!)

Ian trying his hand at a few stick tricks of his own.

He's not fast enough to blur the sticks yet, but his hand is blurred!

Hehe...having fun.
