Such A Sweet Sweetie!

Whew! This spring has kept us busy, busy, busy! Ian has been a super sweetheart throughout all of the busy-ness and has been so good about giving Mommy time to work. We've had lots of assistant band director applications for James, Ian's first birthday with lots of family (whoo-hoo...that was fun!), out-of-state visitors (more fun!), and Gramma K's 50th B-day (yup, you guessed it...still more fun!). All of those things have been major projects that have taken lots of time and errands.

Poor Ian! Momma thought we were all done with projects for a while, but now she and Daddy have another major project that is eating up lots of time. Do you want to hear about it? I'll give you a hint. It has something to do with the color green, music composition, and language structure. Did ya guess it? No? Oh well. I guess I can go ahead and tell you then. After researching TONS of options, James and I decided this past Monday that we could probably swing both of us going back to school this fall. Amazingly, UNT (go mean green!) has degrees that will work for both of our interests and neither of our program's application deadlines had passed yet! This really and truly is amazing because we have checked several universities and colleges all over the state of Texas and UNT is the only with the programs we want that we can still get into for fall semester.

James will be going back for second bachelor's in music education and I am going for the master's in linguistics program. Of course, we both still have to be accepted (please pray for us!), but we are pretty excited about the opportunity. I have to take two pre-req courses in linguistics before I can start the master's, but I found out if I got all my app materials in by June 15 (next Tues) that I can take both those courses simultaneously during Summer II. Ayiyiyi!! Getting everything in on time (including transcripts) has been a lot of work. And Ian has been sooo good. Somehow, he has managed to be okay with watching twice as much TV/DVDs this week and even occasionally having things like cookies for breakfast. Poor kid...he leads such a hard life!

I really do try and alternate my work times with play time with Ian. He is quite good at entertaining himself though, to the point that as long as I am next to him, he will often play on his own even during "our" play time together. One of his favorite activities is to pull his books off of his bookshelves and read them.. I couldn't resist taking pictures of him reading his books earlier this week. He is gaining so much muscle control and can now sit in positions that he couldn't manage before.

Books, books, wonderful books!

A quick break to give his stuffed puppy, Skip, a kiss!

I love this picture of him holding his ball. He really can balance well enough now to keep himself upright in a position like that.

More books. Ian loves to read his books!

One of his Arthur books has flaps that you can pull up and see what is underneath. Here he is starting to read the book.

And now he's checking to see what is underneath the flap! It really amazes me that not only does he know where to lift up on each page, he can actually get the flaps up on his own most of the time.

But you know what really melts my heart? On Wednesday morning, I took two Benadryl at 6am to try and and get my horrible allergies under control. (No, that's not the part that makes me all warm and fuzzy!) I have taken two Benadryl at a time before with no problems. But for some reason, they totally knocked me out that morning! I was soooooo out of it. But my super sweetie happily played in his Pack N Play and high chair all morning. In fact, he sat in his high chair for an hour and a half happily eating graham crackers and watching Veggie Tales! Every fifteen minutes or so, I would wake myself up enough to get off the couch and hand him another graham cracker. He really did soooooo good! I felt horrible because I had no idea that I would be that knocked out. Anyways, because I was so groggy, I put him in his crib for his morning nap and then crashed for my nap. I slept so hard that I have no idea if he actually fell asleep or not. When I woke up after an hour, he was talking to himself in his crib. I went ahead and got him up and we went about a much more normal afternoon schedule. He didn't seem tired, so I didn't try for an early afternoon nap. About 3pm, it was snack time, so I put him back in his high chair with cheerios and yogurt and took a few minutes to catch up on application stuff I had really needed to work on that morning. I looked over after just a few minutes and saw this precious sight.

You have to understand, Ian NEVER sleeps anywhere but his crib, our bed, or his car seat. The last time he fell asleep anywhere else, he was three months old and fell asleep on his play gym. My super sweet baby had just quietly played all day and then crashed in his high chair. It turned my heart to little puddles and I decided most of the application stuff could wait and that we should take a cuddle nap together. I just had to soak up more of that sweet baby preciousness!

As I was quickly finishing up a few things before nap time, Ian's little head moved down as he moved into a deeper sleep. He didn't wake up at all when I got him out of the high chair and moved him to our bed!

Sweet baby boy, thank you for all your patience and hard work in entertaining yourself this week! You are such a blessing to Mommy and Daddy! We love you so much!
