More and All Done

I have to admit the timing of this is kind of funny. You see, I had just been talking to a couple of co-workers recently about when their kids and grandkids started signing. I've signed to Ian quite a bit, but not near as much as I could have. So I was wondering when he would start to pick up signs since I don't sign all the time. Both of my "consultants" said they had seen their little ones really starting to produce signs around 14-17 months. That made me feel better because up to this point, the only "sign" I had seen Ian really do was "all done". And I wasn't even sure he knew what it meant.

But this morning when I asked Ian if we wanted some more juice and signed "more", he signed it back!!! It took me by surprise for sure. I wasn't sure if it was just a fluke or not, but he signed it again at dinner time to get more juice. I'm still not sure he knows what it means, but at least he is copying the sign in the right context!

Before you watch the little video clip, you can click here and scroll down to "more" if you like to see what the sign looks like (Daddy is also signing it in the clip). The sign is made by the fingertips of two "flat o" hands touching each other. Babies tend to sign it with palms touching, almost like they are clapping (which is exactly what Ian does).

And here is Ian signing "all done". He's so cute - just waves his little hands!

Keep signing, buddy! We'll have you interpreting in a couple of years and you can earn your way through kindergarten! (Haha - kidding!!!!!)
