Moving On

Well, at long last (*ahem*...17 months), Ian is no longer nursing. Two weeks ago, he got a little stomach bug or reacted to something he ate and tossed his cookies a number of times. In the past when he has had a tummy bug, he's still nursed just fine. This time, however, he threw up both times I let him nurse. I had been praying about a good time to wean Ian and this seemed as opportune a time as any. After throwing up a couple of times, Ian wasn't even asking for milk anymore. Soooo...we decided it was time to move on. No more Mommy's milk.

A few days later, Ian grabbed this bottle off of the shelf in the pantry. Since it is made of good solid rubber and I knew he wanted it to chew on, I let him have his apple juice in there. Daddy took a picture of his last bottle. Poor tired teething baby!

I've spent hours feeding Ian, and I am so thankful that I was able to breastfeed as long as I did. I never ever imagined I would nurse a child past twelve months, but Ian and I both enjoyed the extra five months we had! Sweet little baby with his last bottle.

Ian, I remember the feeling of awe we had when you were three days old and Daddy and I realized you had survived by our care (and Mommy's milk!) alone. Nursing you has been a (mostly) beautiful journey. I will miss your little baby days, but I love the little boy you are growing into!
