Those Silly Little Things

A long time ago, two little girls named Laura and Liz used to lay awake talking when they were supposed to be sleeping. They would dream of their future families and they would say things like this:

Liz: When I grow up, I am going to take my kids to the late, late show!

Laura: When I grow up, I am going to take my kids to the late, late, late show!

Liz: Well, I am going to take them to the late, late, late, late show!

Laura: I am going to take them to the late, late, late, late, late show! I'll be the best Mom there is!

Liz: Oh really? I will take them to the late, late, late, late, late, LATE show! AND I will let them eat brussell sprouts all the time! I will be the best Mom ever!

Laura: Oh ye-eh-eh-eh-eh-eeeeessssss!

And then those two silly little girls would dissolve into laughter at the thought of making their children stay up that late and eat brussell sprouts and feel mighty proud of themselves for each being the best (aka worst) mom in this silly conversation.

And then one day, they grew up and got married. Liz married an Air Force kind of guy and had two beautiful children named Allie and Aiden.

Allie was full of spunk and spirit. She was as smart as could be and quite adventurous.

Aiden was a Momma's boy through and through. But he loved to rough and tumble and run around like the tough little boy he was.

Laura married a drummer kind of guy and they had one wonderful child named Ian.

Ian was a Momma's boy. He loved for Mommy to rock him and read to him. He loved to dance and play with Mommy.

Ian was just as much Daddy's boy. He loved to play horsie with Daddy and have Daddy spin him really fast in circles.

And then one day, Laura found herself at Whole Foods looking for all natural, Feingold friendly gummy bears for Ian. When she asked a clerk about it, a nice lady overheard and showed her where they were. Another lady joined them as they talked. And all of the sudden, Laura found herself in this conversation:

Laura: Oh, these will be great. Just what I am looking for.

Lady 1: That's wonderful that they don't have artificial colors. Are they low in sugar?

Laura: Yes, I think so.

Lady 1: Look at these Kale chips. Don't they look great?

Laura: I bet those would taste good!

Lady 2 (smiling): Oh but they are so much better if you make them at home yourself!

Lady 1 (very interested): Oh really? I need to try that!

Lady 2: Yes, they are a great that way. And you don't need a microwave.

Lady 1: Oh wonderful!! I can't believe some people still use microwaves. I went to my son's for Thanksgiving and they even microwaved water! You know what kind of things you are ingesting if you drink that, right?

Lady 2: I know! Horrible.

And Laura couldn't help but laugh (inside her head, for she wouldn't want to offend the ladies) at how her silly little girl conversation had turned into a big grown-up conversation. But Laura wouldn't change a thing. She was still going to be the best Mommy in the world that she could be to her little boy, brussell sprouts and all!
