Mommy's Little Bookworm

For a while, I was a little concerned that we would have to force Ian to read books as he got older. He just wasn't that interested in them. I would see pictures of other babies his age happily looking at books and wonder if Ian was going to go the way of the video game instead. But, at about seven months, he suddenly started being interested in books. Now, he LOVES to read and to be read to (just like his Mommy and Daddy).

I'm a bit behind in posting these particular pictures of my little bookworm. These were taken when he was nine months old. I caught him happily laying on the floor reading books one morning.

He loves to look at more than one book at a time.

Sometimes it is just so hard to choose which one to read first!

So he usually does a taste test to help him pick.

Yup - that's a good solid book!

What a cutie!! I love this!

I had to sneak in this picture of his "Property of Mom" outfit too, so you can see that he is indeed his momma's baby!

The rest of these pictures were taken when he was ten months old. Here he is reading by the back door. Haha - I think he was waiting on Mommy to take out the little Christmas tree and santa hats and put them in the outside storage closet.

Reading Pat the Bunny before bedtime. This is one of my favorite kiddo books.

Mommy left her Bible on the floor one day, so of course Ian had to go investigate this new book.

Looking at the maps. He's looking up at me about to "ask" what all that stuff is...haha.

Auntie Liz called, so he multitasked for a little bit by talking on the phone and reading!

He also loves to read in his Pack N Play. He will sit back against the large stuffed elephant Uncle Mike gave to Mommy for her birthday one year and read his books.

At first, Ian could hardly get the pages of his books open. Now he will sit there and turn the pages one by one. Often he "reads" them aloud to himself. On the books that have different textures, he knows where to touch on the pages to feel them. It's so fun watching his little motor skills develop! We're looking forward to all the books we will be able to share with him over the years.

  1. I love my reading kiddos! Now that they aren't taking naps (boo) they have quiet time for an hour most days (sometimes longer if I am napping) and read! I know where Allie is at in reading, but didn't realize how much Aiden comprehended until we were at Ross with Landon and Kika. I was buying two books for school, Discover Animals and Your Body book, and Aiden "read" them to Landon. They "read" the whole animal book and then Landon asked, "Aiden will you read this one to me?" It was precious! Can't wait to have cousin reading time :)
